Breaking down the Traditional Classroom Walls the easy way 7.4.4

We have been trying to find common ground while  doing a kind of cost benefit analysis of each of the two directions we should be considering i.e. Technology and innovative learning visavis Construction of new learning spaces. It is important to reach a consensus now  considering that both options have their pros and cons. Technology having to by-pass costs of construction and construction by pass those of technology and innovation. The costs here, of course, analysed looking at both the money that has to sink into each of the projects and the  adaptability to current and future relevant pedagogical trends.

Agreeing on  a plausible approach can be a very daunting experience because in pursuing one end you have to be willing to part with the benefits of the other. But this should not be the way to look at it because you can actually experience both as you carefully lay down a plan that gradually integrates technology into the current 'four walls', virtually breaking them down to expose your learners to the world wide web of resources and platforms, while also redesigning and reconstructing your school to, not only give your learners the mind stimulating environment that will prompt learning, but also providing the design to integrate new technologies that new teaching and learning models may demand.

In reaching a consensus you therefore answer the question: "What is the most cost effective way of pursuing both the technology view and construction view while making my school realise curriculum objectives and continue to apply relevant and trending pedagogic approaches.

There are now a number of technologies that can transform the traditional classroom into a portal to access global resources and link learners to a relevant network of other internet users. You therefore do not need to fear, if you may, the cost of breaking down traditional classroom walls. By using IWB's, Tablets, Ipads, laptops, desktops - all installed with relevant apps and strategically placed in positions that would benefit the class most; one can easily breakdown (virtually) the walls of the traditional classroom. However, this should not stop you from pursuing a redesign of your learning spaces as a learner mind stimulation strategy.

MY REVIEW OF TWO LESSONS THAT INFUSE DIGITAL LITERACY 4.3.3

LESSON A Click here to view This is a Geography lesson entitled "Our Fractured Earth" . In the lesson, the learners work in groups and generally do their research and presentations on a media of their choice. The learners use mainly power point slides they prepare themselves as opposed to those prepared by the teacher. This clearly indicates how the lesson goes a long way in engaging learners to create meaningful content as they collaborate in their groups. This knowledge is later shared. Digital methodologies and pedagogies are seen in the teacher allowing learners to use any gadgets they are permitted by their parents to use. The learners also go ahead to solve real problems when one of the groups creates a Lego motion animation representing what it might be like to be in an earthquake.
